Lewis set

Well over six years ago, I got myself an expanded 40-piece set of Lewis chessmen, which I then used for a Courier chess set-up. It recently dawned on me that I never put the basic 32-piece set on a board! That can, of course, very easily be remedied .....

I decided to use the tile 'garden board' I made for my Royal Beasts set. Still wet from the rain, the walruses I added to the Courier chess set-up had fun ...

The squares have weathered a lot after being outside in the garden for well over six years! And the still-wet board acts as a nod to the wind-swept Isle of Lewis, where the original 12th century chessmen were found.

Better late than never!

A set very similar to mine was used in a scene in a 'Harry Potter' movie:

This particular set actually belongs to Irving Finkel!

Rumour has it that the set used in the movie was made by the same person who made my set, but as he seems to have totally disappeared from Etsy and other platforms, there is no way anymore to confirm this ....
