Some time ago, I created a board for a Lord of the Rings set. At that point in time, I wasn't aware that an official Lord of Rings chess set existed, issued by New Line Cinema. Or, to be more precise, three sets, each linked to one of the movies in the trilogy. You surely see where this is going .... eBay was my friend, once again! All three sets have the usual cardboard boards, and nicely sculpted plastic pieces.

"The Fellowship of the Ring"
The 'bronze' (black) side has various orks and trolls as the minor pieces, and has a ring wraith as the queen and Saruman as the king.
The 'pewter' (white) side has Sam as pawns, Boromir, Aragorn and Frodo as rook, knight and bishop, respectively, and Galadriel and Gandalf as the royal pieces.
The 'chinese lacquer' (black) side again has orks and warg riders as the minor pieces, Wormtongue as queen, and Saruman again as king.
The 'antique ivory' (white) side has almost the same pieces as the 'Fellowship set', except for the rook: Treebeard takes that place on the board.
The 'antique bronze' (black) side again has orks as pawns, Wormtongue is now the rook, a Warg Rider the knight, and Gollum the bishop. The queen is in the form of a Ring Wraith, and the tower of Barad-Dur is the king.
The 'ancient bone' (white) side has once again Sam as pawns, Legolas and Gimli as the two rooks, Merry and Pippin as the two knights, Frodo and Gandalf as the two bishops, and, quite fittingly, Arwen and Aragorn as the royal couple.
