St George set

Staunton is probably the best known design for chess pieces, and is the standard nowadays, but that certainly hasn't always been the case. A design dating back to 19th century England is known as St George, and sets with this design pop up on eBay quite regularly.

So it wasn't difficult or expensive to add a St George set to my collection, and it sits well on the same board as I used for my Staunton set.

Whereas pawns, rooks, knights and bishops are easily recognisable, kings and queens look clearly different from those in a Staunton set.

One of the pawns has some damage, but that certainly doesn't detract from the set.

Nice set for sure, and I especially like the tulip-shaped bishops!
